Multicultural Easter

On Easter morning, we awoke to the thrill of Nerf guns, art supplies, and all things Alice in Wonderland.

In addition to celebrating the Resurrection, Easter is our season in NC to bathe ourselves in pollen, demonsrated nicely here by Captain Allergen and his puffy eyes.
And here we are wearing a giant Easter Egg on our head. Things to be proud of.

As for Leigh-O, the most coveted egg in the basket this year was the Alice in Wonderland pop-up book, the pursuit of which nearly sent the Easter Bunny into panic attacks when Barnes & Noble sold their last one.

We were thrilled that our buddies joined us at Nanny's for Easter Lunch. Lucy was Pretty in Pink in her new Minnie Mouse shades.

Lest we focus too much on the New Testament this Easter, Cameron reminded us of our Hebrew beginnings when he decided Grandaddy's pollen mask would double nicely as a yamaka.
Ever the supportive wife, Leigh helped him position his new head gear for maximum style & comfort.

Happy Easter, our Bah Mitzvah buddy! Oy Vey!

Porch of Brotherly Love

Really--I just wanted one picture of my two kids, acting like they love each other. Once forced to stand arm-in-arm, Hunter proceeded to do his Gomer Pyle impression.
Under the threat of a beating, he smiled for the next shot. Leigh, however, decided her belly button was more interesting than this photo session.

Then back to Gomer Pyle.
FINALLY, they looked at each other like they didn't wish the other was mysteriously taken away to another planet.

Leigh even blew a kiss up at her big brother.

...and I was happy.

Abra Cadabra

After the Easter Egg Hunt, we all gathered on the playground for a remarkable Magic Show! While getting settled to watch the show, the girlies were happy to oblige the paparazzi...

...while the guys were too cool to give us good pictures. After everyone settled down in a good viewing spot, The Amazing David appeared and started the show with his Magic Wand.He even got some help from the audience, with Camo one of the first to volunteer. He tried to get Leigh to pitch in, but she respectfully declined. In fact, I think she would have sooner volunteered to have gum surgery. During the course of the hour-long show, The Amazing David pulled out a variety of interesting creatures for our viewing pleasure. Among the surprises were a dove...
... a rat ...

... a white bunny...
... and for the grand finale, no less than this Capuchin monkey.

For me, seeing the expression on the kids' faces was more fun than seeing the veritable zoo this guy pulled out of his hats, boxes, and jars.

At any given moment, it was clear that these little guys didn't know whether to laugh or scream, smile or gasp, talk or hush, believe or disbelieve. And to me, that was amazing.

Colvard Farms Easter Egg Hunt

This morning we had our Annual Colvard Farms Easter Egg Hunt. Even though we showed up in our Spring Best, we ended up wrapping up in coats in deference to the 40-degree blustery day.
Not wanting to mix the Big Snotty Kids with the Little Stinky Kids, the Hunt started with the Little Ones being loosed in the front of the clubhouse. Here Dee gets Lucy pepped up for the big event.

Meanwhile, the Bigs gathered around to tour the visiting fire truck and learn a little about fire prevention and safety.

After the Pyro-Lesson, they bolted across the yard for their turn at some serious egg- (ie, candy) gathering.

Hunter and Jackie headed towards the mass of trees, while Seb did his level best to scale the tall tree to grab the elusive yellow egg, obviously hidden by a very tall Easter Bunny.

Leigh and the girls took some time out to enjoy the slide at the playground before we headed back home to sort out the goods.

The Art Gallery

This afternoon we got to visit the Art Gallery that Hunter and his classmates have been working on at school over the past 2 weeks. And it was extra special for our favorite artist, Serpil, to attend this event with us.
