Happy Pancakes

Last week the kids enjoyed some creative pancake art, compliments of Serpil. While Leigh's special pancake became happy with blueberries and grapes, Hunter's needed something more substantial (ie, ham and cheddar cheese) to come to life. Breakfast has never been so fun around here.

Fun at Frankie's

Last weekend Miss Allie and I took the Fabulous Four to Frankie's. This was the excited crew as we landed in the parking lot. Our first stop was the Bumper Boats. Here Leigh & C-Dog sneak an opportunity for a quick smooch before hopping in their respective boats.

Hunter and Jackie had HUGE fun making sure everybody in the pond was as soaked as they were.
This was the scene afterwards, and as you can see, Hunter & Jackie took the brunt of the waves.

Once inside, we were entertained by baseball bats, electric cars, freakish alligator coin eaters, skee ball, rifles, mindless attempts to win stuffed SpongeBob toys, and air hockey.

The best thing about this car simulation was that Leigh and Cameron enjoyed it immensely, despite the fact that it was never actually turned on while they were playing it.

Leigh's Putt-Putt swing needed a little guidance, which Miss Allie graciously provided.

The girlies were much more interested in looking beautiful and posing for the camera than in playing Putt-Putt.

In contrast, Hunter busied himself on a Ticket-Seeking Mission most of the afternoon. Afterall, a mere 5,000 tickets would allow him to pick out a toy that we could buy at the dollar bin at Target.

Afterwards, we took the kids to Pei Wei, where we enjoyed a nice, relaxing lunch and a special time to show off our well-behaved children...

Nature Observatory

Summer has offered us lots of tree-hugging time and plenty of oppportunties to enjoy our natural surroundings. Among the fascinating critters we've met are a caterpillar, whom Hunter & Jackie collectively named Fuzzy Wuzzy Alexander Bob. An overgrown grasshopper and giant red ant, both of Honey I Shrunk the Kids' proportion

A baby frog clinging for dear life to one of our jalapeno pepper leaves

And a squirrel hanging out at the park.

I can't help but wonder which one of these 2 creatures (Leigh vs squirrel) is easier to tame.

From the Bayou to Colvard Park Drive

Tonight our neighbors, Dan and Amanda, treated us all to a rockin' Catfish Fry and Crawdad Boil. Mr. Dan had the goods shipped on dry ice straight from Louisiana, and it made for a feast we won't forget.
Here Mr. Bill shows off the fruits of his labor (ie, meat from the tail),

which he followed with a live demonstration of how to suck a crawfish head.

Not to be outdone, Chad made sure we knew he was man enough to slurp the brains out of a crawfish, too.
While the boys were busy sucking crustaceans, us girls stayed inside and drank while watching the children, as all good Mommies should. Hushpuppies were serious business to Leigh...

...but Minnie Mouse was not.

The boys were more interested in Tanner's remote control dinosaur than in crawfish or Minnie Mouse.
After dinner, Miss Allie got a Happy Birthday serenade...

...and a big smooch from her hubby. Many thanks to Mr. Dan, the Ragin' Cajun who made it all happen!!

Car Date

You can almost hear the internal conversations going on here.
Leigh: What's with the shirt buttoned all the way up to the collar? Does he not know it's going to be 94 degrees today? I mean, it's not like it's the middle of July or anything. What a nerd.
Cameron: What's with the ponytail on the side of her head? Did her hair have a stroke? Could she not afford 2 rubberbands? What a whack-job. Leigh: This is going to be a really fun trip.
Cameron: I wonder what these things do.
Leigh: This gum is really good.
Cameron: Hey, these binoculars make everything look red!

Leigh: This is so much fun!
Cameron: Hey--your ponytail looks red!
Leigh: You are getting on my last nerve with those stupid binoculars.
Cameron: These things are so freaking cool.
Leigh: I need to get out of here.
Cameron: These things are so freaking cool.

Leigh: Whatever.
Cameron: This is the best date I've had in a long time.
